ABOUT RED WIGGLER WORMS:
Worm castings are a natural soil amendment and one of the best known sources of nutrients that plants need to grow.

Join the revolution of sustainable gardening and waste management by incorporating Red Wigglers into your composting system. In the soil, these hardworking worms play dual roles as aerators and decomposers, efficiently processing biodegradable matter. Their feeding habits lead to the production of nutrient-rich worm castings, significantly enhancing soil fertility. Our Red Wigglers can consume their own weight in organic matter within just 24 hours!

FOOD:
Redworms are versatile eaters, readily consuming various biodegradable materials, excluding those with excess oil or chemicals. Encouraged items include fruits, vegetables, coffee grounds, tea bags, eggshells, and any vegetable matter. However, it's best to avoid feeding them meat, bones, salt, vinegar, cooking oil, or dairy products.

For efficient composting, a 12-14 gallon worm bin can handle about 6 lbs. of organic waste per week, but we suggest starting gradually. To accelerate decomposition, consider finely chopping the materials before adding them to the bin. With proper feeding and care, your redworms will transform organic waste into nutrient-rich vermicompost, promoting a healthier and greener environment.

WINDOW SCREEN HARVESTING TECHNIQUE:
As harvest time approaches, prepare for it by placing a window screen (6" wider than the bin all around) over the composting mass. Add fresh bedding on top of the screen, and feed the worms on this second layer. As the food below depletes, the worms will naturally move through the screen to the fresh food above, attracted by its presence. After a few months, gently lift the screen by its edges to reveal the rich castings below. Harvest the castings, then transfer the newer composting material from above the screen to the bottom of an empty bin, and finally, replace the screen for continued composting.

INDOOR COMPOSTING:
Indoor composting is an eco-friendly way to recycle kitchen scraps and organic waste right in the comfort of your home, without the need for a backyard compost pile. To begin, you'll need a designated worm bin, and a thriving colony of Red Wigglers. Set up the worm bin in a convenient location, such as your kitchen or utility area, making it easy to add food scraps regularly. As you go about your daily routine, collect fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, tea bags, eggshells, and other biodegradable kitchen waste. Avoid adding meat, dairy, or oily items to prevent odors and attract pests.

As you add kitchen scraps to the worm bin, ensure a proper balance by incorporating bedding material like shredded newspaper or coconut coir. This bedding provides a comfortable environment for the worms and aids in the composting process. Within a few weeks, your Red Wigglers will reward you with dark, nutrient-rich compost that your plants will love.

A crucial note: Never use water from water softening systems, as the salt content will be harmful to the worms.

OUTDOOR COMPOSTING:
To get started, choose a suitable location for your outdoor compost bin, preferably in a shaded area with good drainage. Red Wigglers are well-suited to outdoor composting and will thrive in a variety of weather conditions.

Collect kitchen scraps, garden waste, and other organic materials to feed your Red Wigglers. Remember to avoid adding meat, dairy, or oily items to prevent unpleasant odors and pests.

Dig a shallow hole in the compost pile or bin and gently spread the Red Wigglers along with their bedding. Cover them up, and they will naturally seek out areas within the compost where the temperature and conditions are just right for their composting activities.
